Course Length:
The duration of the course varies based on the qualification type chosen:
- Award: Minimum 50 Total Qualification Time (TQT) hours and 18 Guided Learning Hours (GLH).
- Certificate: Minimum 130 TQT hours and 55 Guided Learning Hours (GLH).
Course Structure:
The qualification consists of mandatory and optional units, structured as follows:
- CMI Level 3 Award in First Line Management and Leadership: Requires at least one unit, totaling 50 TQT hours.
- CMI Level 3 Certificate in First Line Management and Leadership: Requires at least two units, totaling 130 TQT hours.
Entry Requirements:
- Open to learners aged 16 and above.
- No specific formal entry requirements set by CMI, but learners must have the capability to meet the learning and assessment demands.
- Centres are responsible for ensuring learners are recruited with integrity, meet course suitability, and receive proper guidance.

The CMI Level 7 qualification is designed for senior managers, regional managers, specialist managers (e.g., finance, risk, marketing, sales, HR), directors, and CEOs. It is aimed at individuals wishing to develop professional management and leadership skills to drive business activities at a strategic level.
Course Length
The total qualification time (TQT) varies depending on the qualification type:
- Award – Requires a minimum of 70 (TQT) total qualification time to complete a minimum of at least one unit.
- Certificate – Requires a minimum of 140 (TQT) total qualification time to complete a combination of core and optional units.
Course Structure
The qualification consists of core and optional units, divided into two groups:
Progression Opportunities
- Progress to other Level 7 qualifications.
- Apply for Chartered Manager (CMgr) status.
- Move into senior leadership positions.
- Pursue further studies in Higher Education (MBA or similar).
Assessment
- Assignments are graded on a Pass/Refer basis.
- Assessments include written assignments, case studies, strategic projects, and reflective reports.
- Learners must provide authentic work, with clear evidence of meeting assessment criteria.
This qualification is ideal for aspiring and current senior leaders who want to refine their strategic leadership skills while ensuring organisational success.

- No formal entry requirements are specified, but training providers must ensure learners have the capability to undertake the qualification.
