Eunice Goshomi began her Level 5 Leader in Adult Care Apprenticeship while serving as a Deputy Manager at Omnicare Health Services. Her motivation for enrolling in the program was to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to advance in her field, with the ultimate goal of becoming a Registered Manager with the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
At the onset of her apprenticeship, Eunice faced challenges in understanding certain elements of the final assessment and the structured requirements of the program. However, with guidance from her tutor, she was able to break down the complex structure of the EPA (End Point Assessment) and build a clearer picture of the assessment expectations. This preparation helped her approach the assessment with confidence and led to her successfully passing the EPA with a mix of distinctions and passes in the required competencies.
Throughout the apprenticeship, Eunice engaged with a broad range of critical subjects, including safeguarding principles, CQC standards, legislation, equality and diversity, and recruitment practices. These studies allowed her to deepen her understanding of industry standards, which she applied directly to her daily tasks and responsibilities as a Deputy Manager. Eunice shared how the program’s activities and assignments were directly relevant to the CQC’s criteria, which ultimately prepared her for a rigorous CQC interview. Her strong grasp of these topics meant her CQC interview lasted under two hours, a remarkable achievement considering the length and depth of most CQC registration interviews.
The apprenticeship led to notable career advancement for Eunice. Initially appointed as a Deputy Manager, Eunice’s expertise and new skills led to recognition from her management team, who encouraged her to pursue registration as a manager. Passing her CQC registration solidified her position as a competent leader in adult care, capable of handling the responsibilities of a Registered Manager. The apprenticeship, therefore, was not only a learning journey but also a direct catalyst for her career progression.
Eunice reflected positively on her experience, noting that the apprenticeship was instrumental in developing both her professional skills and her career confidence. Equipped with her Level 5 diploma and EPA certification, Eunice is now considering new roles within the sector, exploring options that will allow her to fully leverage her skills and qualifications. She has already begun applying for new management positions, confident in her employability due to the rigorous training and assessment she completed through the apprenticeship.
The Leader in Adult Care Apprenticeship has had a transformative impact on Eunice’s career, transitioning her from a Deputy Manager to a Registered Manager. The program provided her with essential skills, deepened her knowledge, and equipped her for future roles in health and social care leadership. This case study exemplifies the apprenticeship’s value in empowering individuals with both practical skills and industry-recognized credentials, enabling sustained professional growth and contribution to the field.
